BUY BLACK THE BLOCK
Hey Y’all!
I’m back with a new post, and some vibrancy for the end of summer. Before I go into that, I also wanted to touch on a few things in regards to Black fashion.
Black fashion, Black designers, Black fashion businesses are underrepresented and underrated in the fashion industry. In my experience with the fashion industry, my people are nonexistent in comparison to other races. I look around and I don’t see others who look like me.
Change is non-negotiable. There needs to be more inclusion and diversity. The industry as a whole has lacked the ability to give credit where it’s due in terms of Black creativity. I know - not think - but I KNOW for a fact that Black creativity deserves equal representation in shelf space and not just on Instagram. If you haven’t watched “The Remix” on Netflix, please consider it as it will open your eyes to a lot of Black creativity that has been used for inspiration by high end fashion companies without any true representation of where the inspiration came from in the first place.
Now for some vibrancy! Listen, when I saw these pants (it’s actually a set) on Nichole Lynel’s website (shopnicholelynel.com ) I instantly pulled out my debit card! If you know me or keep up with my style, you know I have a simple, trendy and unique style, with a pop of color the majority of the time. The contrast of the brown and hot pink took me out! These pants are definitely the highlight of this look. They are also versatile and turn into shorts. I love exploring new colors and encouraging myself to indulge in pieces that are outside of my comfort zone - that’s how we grow! This is a look that I can confidently say will break some necks...just saying.
Unfortunately, this set is all sold out, but I encourage you all to keep up with Nichole Lynel on Instagram as she always has something new and trendy on her site! I decided to split this set up. I really love the pants - they give me 90’s track suit vibes. Though this is a more casual pant, I loved the idea of dressing them up! I paired these with a nude bodysuit from Zara, Picasso earrings from H&M, transparent heeled mules, simple gold jewelry (of course), and these “Rich Auntie Vibes” squared sunnies from ASOS! Even though COVID is still roaming this earth, this look is perfect for brunch, a summer photoshoot, or even a rooftop bar or lounge on a summer night.
We don’t need to prove to the industry that we want a seat at their table. Our culture helped build the table. Fashion needs US. Whoever you are in the fashion industry - keep going, keep striving for greatness, and please make sure to keep fighting for equality and inclusivity within the realms of this industry. Fashion needs unity. I hope this post inspires you to do something great and step out of your comfort zone when it comes embracing your style! Remember to keep those #ideasloading.
With Love,
Paris Ysatis
