Hey y’all!
I am aware that a lot of our financial situations vary right now, in addition to how our days are being spent, and how we our taking care of ourselves, alongside dealing with racial injustice that has been severely draining. As a Black woman I want to see CHANGE in every aspect that America has to offer, especially in the fashion industry. I want to encourage you all and myself to strive towards the finish line and keep persevering regardless of what we are going through during these trying times. To my fellow Black creatives, keep creating! We need one another more than ever for continuous support, we need to enlighten our people, we need to remain diligent, and we must be strong to fight injustice with our skillsets. ALL Black Lives Matter.
So…Summer is here! I know that summer doesn’t look how most of us envisioned it — especially the fluctuating weather, but all we can do is make the best of it. I wanted to give you all some guidance on a few trends that will be relevant during the summer from a bit of research I’ve done.
BERMUDA SHORTS
First up are Bermuda shorts. I honestly never thought these would come back into style but I’m loving the way they are being styled. Even denim Bermuda shorts would be an ideal piece for me. These would be very cute with a tank/sleveless bodysuit or a long sleeved chiffon, flowy crop top. I especially love this vibrant color - this is perfect for summer!
JUMPSUITS
I love how easy jumpsuits are and how versatile they can be - well, depending on the style. This one here can be worn with heels or sneakers. This is definitely a brunch look to the T. This lilac color is definitely a trend right now. I don’t see the harm in wearing this color from top to bottom!
BOLD COLORS
Honestly, I felt like this was going to be a trend before I read upon it in a fashion article. I love rust orange, orange, and mustards against my skin tone in the summer. In my opinion, this color complements all skin tones. This is a palette of colors that you can contrast with others and possibly start a trend of your own!
PUFFY SLEEVES
I love this look! This gives a great classy and sophisticated look that can be dressed up or down with heels or cute sneakers and you are good to go. This style blouse I would pair with jeans, a denim skirt, or even Bermuda shorts! Many online stores offer this style in different range off puffy sleeved blouses or dresses.
SQUARED TOED STRAPPY HEELS
I have one pair of these from Steve Madden and I LOVE them. They are multi-colored (the color is definitely out of my comfort zone), but I love how the square toe is uniquely designed to give the sandal an elevated look.
SOFT CLUTCHES
I want one of these! This is on my to-do lists for items I would like to purchase. This is definitely a piece that can be worn casually and dressed up. I love the simplicity of this clutch, but yet it screams sophistication and class. This is a trend that I feel will stay around for a while because of how easy it is to wear.
If you are really into fashion, trends, and style like I am…then it is beneficial to research on what will be on trend for the present or following year. You don’t necessarily have to follow the trends of course, but it might spark an idea that no one has thought of yet. You can improvise with what you have in your closet, search for more affordable pieces, or just admire the trends. Personally, I like to keep up, whether I follow seasonal trends or not because it helps me in my professional career and it also ignites my creativity when it comes to putting outfits together!
